:: Tattoo Removal

Tattoos come in all shapes, sizes and colours. They can be a constant reminder of a regretted episode in the past. Early attempts to remove tattoos have had less than desirable results - leaving behind scars in place of the tattoo.
The advent of Q switched lasers has enabled the removal of most tattoos with minimal risk of scaring. The laser breaks up the tattoo ink, which is then removed by the body's natural filtering systems. The number of treatments depends on the amount, type of ink used and the depth of ink in the skin. It is therefore impossible to predict the number of sessions or the degree of removal on any given tattoo.

:: How many treatment sessions will it take to remove the tattoo?

On average, an amateur home-made tattoo may only require 1-3 treatments, professional tattoo's may require 6 or more treatments. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin. Certain colours e.g. green can be particularly stubborn and may require more treatments.

:: Is the treatment painful?

The impact of the energy from the powerful pulse of light is similar to the snap of an elastic band and is quite similar to when the tattoo was put on.

:: Will the tattoo fade completely?

In many cases, yes. Greater than 95% fading of the tattoo may be accomplished. However, it is very important to know that over 100 tattoo inks are in use worldwide today, none of which are regulated by the FDA. Not knowing which tattoo ink, how deep or how much was used, makes it impossible to predict the degree of removal.
